Doctoral Graduation Ceremony

The Faculty of Humanities honors the successful completion of doctoral studies with a ceremony.

The next graduation ceremony will take place on October 9, 2026, at Königlicher Pferdestall. Invitations will be sent out in late summer.

 

Doctoral Graduation Ceremony 2025

On May 16, 2025, after a long hiatus, the Faculty of Humanities finally held its doctoral graduation ceremony again.
Starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Leibnizhaus, doctoral graduates who had completed their studies since the 2023/24 winter semester were honored and bid farewell in a festive setting.
The President of Leibniz University, Prof. Dr. Volker Epping, opened the ceremony with a welcoming address to the doctoral graduates, before they were individually honored for their great personal and academic achievements by the Dean of Research at the Faculty of Humanities, Prof. Dr. Nils Hoppe.
In addition, literary scholar and critic Dr. Insa Wilke was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Humanities during the event.

Panel discussion “Political Work in the Sciences?”

On the occasion of her honorary doctorate, Dr. Wilke also moderated a panel discussion on the topic “Political Work in the Sciences?” at 4:00 p.m. at the Leibnizhaus, in which the following professors from the Faculty of Humanities participated:

  • Prof. Dr. Mathias Frisch (Institute of Philosophy/Theoretical Philosophy)
  • Prof. Dr. Nils Hoppe (Dean of Research, Faculty of Philosophy/Centre for Ethics and Law in the Life Sciences)
  • Prof. Dr. Ruth Mayer (English Department of English/American Studies)
  • Prof. Dr. Brigitte Reinwald (History Department/African History)
