Abschiedsvorlesung von Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Gabbert

Farewell lecture by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Gabbert

The long-standing professor at the Institute of Sociology gave his farewell lecture on January 21.

Prof. Gabbert bid farewell to members of the Institute of Sociology and the Faculty of Humanities with a lecture as part of the research colloquium of the Centre for Atlantic and Global Studies. He has held the chair of “Development Sociology and Cultural Anthropology” at the Institute of Sociology in the Faculty of Humanities since 2002 and will retire from active service at the end of the winter semester.
The lecture, entitled “Looking Back to the Future – An Attempt at ‘Intellectual Reforestation’,” was both a review and a preview of Gabbert's academic work. In addition to his decades of professional work at the Institute of Sociology and the key research area “The Atlantic World: Local and Global Dimensions,” he was also an active and long-standing member of the Faculty of Humanities' Faculty Council.
The lasting impression he left as a scholar and colleague was acknowledged in the introductory remarks by Prof. Dr. Volker Wünderich, Dr. Daniela Célleri, and Dr. Javier Lastra-Bravo, as well as in the expert discussion following the lecture.
The 100 invited guests concluded the atmospheric evening with a reception in the Royal Stables.
